Gov. Christie = awesome

I'm assuming he was snappy with that teacher because, as the reporter said, "they had a heated exchange". But why is he awesome? Is it because he sent the message that teachers don't deserve to be paid what they're worth with respect to education and experience?

No, that wasn't what he said and that was not the message at all. The message is that teachers should be subject to the same laws of supply and demand, budgetary contraints, etc. that people not on the public dole are subject to. He is awesome b/c he is a small government, libertarianish (if that is a word) kind of person.

Should all public employees be paid compensated like private sector employees?

Everyone should be paid based on their marginal productivity. We can't just shovel money into politically popular public servants pockets (teachers, firefighters, police, etc.) You may not be aware of this, but Howard County has the PRESENT VALUE of nearly half a billion dollars in unfunded pension liabilities due to employees. Your kids will be paying for this should they choose to live in HoCo. Many public servants are unionized which further raises their pay. People need to realize that times are tough, especially those living off the public dole.

I don't love the way compensation works for teachers. (I don't know how it works for other public employees.) I think the pension issue is a big, big problem.

I hope you write more about this because your perspective is really interesting.
