Strange investment for Al Gore

Hmmm, it's interesting that Al Gore paid nearly $9 million for a villa bordering the Pacific Ocean in Montecito, California, a town in which the minimum elevation is at sea level. In Al Gore's book (page 196) he writes:

If Greenland melted or broke up and slipped into the sea- or if half of Greenland and half of Antarctica melted or broke up and slipped into the sea, sea levels worldwide would increase by between 18 and 20 feet.

He goes on to quote Sir David King as saying "the maps of the world will have to be redrawn."

I guess Gore thinks that scenario described in his book is pretty unlikely. Or maybe this is his way of sticking it to his insurance company (talk about moral hazard).

Btw, the house has six fireplaces, five bedrooms and nine bathrooms. Say what you want about climate change, global warming, etc. Mr. Gore's actions seem to be incongruent with his dire predictions.

A quote I continue to repeat - "I will believe Global Warming is a crisis when the people who claim it is a crisis start acting like it is a crisis"

Dave- Funny you should mention that. I was just thinking about seeing that quote on your blog back in the day.

I was a strong believer in global warming when I thought there was a scientific consensus, but now that that concensus is known to have been oversold and the people telling me it's a problem are not acting like it's a problem, I guess I am becoming more skeptical.

Anyone who actually purchases beachfront is a lunatic or an idiot.

Vacation there, do a timeshare, but how much cash do you have to be drowining in to PAY for something that is going to be destroyed shortly?

Sure. The melting of polar ice caps is a sham. Seriously? YOU GUYS ARE IDIOTS! Global warming is real. Face it. We aren't in trouble but our grandchildren are. Conservatives are always completely self-centered, egotistical maniacs. I guess you are all impatiently waiting on the "end times."

Anon - get a grip on REALITY. Global temperatures are cyclical. End of story. I believe in taking care of the environment (ie: not polluting and littering) but I don't believe in radical, hysterical cries about the end of the earth being upon us if we don't stop driving cars and stuff. Lunacy.

Gore is a hypocrite, plain and simple.

Anon 8:41- I guess the point of this post was to point out that Gore is not acting like he believes that his own pessimistic predictions are true.

Try not to let your emotions overrun your common sense. Telling me I'm an idiot in all caps when I simply point out the incongruence of Al Gore does not make me want to take you seriously.

Btw, I am not a conservative. I hope that doesn't confuse your simple view of the world too much.
