Maryland voting in the news…

A Maryland bill was the subject of the New York Times editorial page today. Assuming O’Malley signs the bill, it will grant rehabilitated felons the right to vote.

The new law would simplify matters by making eligible all ex-offenders who have completed their sentences and finished parole and probation, with the exception of people convicted of election fraud. It would bring Maryland in line with dozens of other states that have similar policies.

This bill is long overdue. After all, are our tax dollars paying for a correction system, or just a punishment system?

There is something about this that does't feel right, maybe it is the "exception" that is stated in the article.

Isn't it always about trust, or the lack of. So we can trust those that may have committed horrible crimes, much worst than election fraud.

Trust is all or nothing.
