A new blog

Most people would say that I am one of the most hostile local bloggers, so it warms my heart shaped box to see this new blog. The title of the blog, "Embrace Hostility in Howard County", mocks the choose civility campaign that we are so familiar with in Howard County. The blog is very witty and entertaining. And the best part is that it has its own online store!

You have some pretty stiff competition in the hostility category from this blog.

That hostility blog goes over the top. I get my fill of hostility from several other fronts, and so am not in need of further gratuitous aggression.

I don't think that the EH blog is hostile. In fact, I think it is very laid back and indifferent. And funny!

Unrelated to the EH blog, I am fatigued with the choose civility campaign. I think those bumper magnets are just the fashionable thing to have on car, and I doubt that most people who have them have read the book. There was a photo of Ken Ulman on the library website awhile back next to a Prius that displayed one of those magnets on the bumper. Ulman ran the most negative campaign of the three CE candidates, which speaks to the emptiness of the choose civility program.

There's no doubt that most people who have the car magnets didn't read the book. But, the thing is, they don't need to in order to know what civility is. Besides, if we're going to strive for something, we could do better than the equivalent of toleration. It's a lousy standard for a lot of things in life.
