Speak of the devil

Speaking of the law of unintended consequences, a Howard County councilperson introduced a bill to allow corporate sponsors of little league games to display their logos on the fences surrounding the playing field. Why? Because said banners are currently illegal under the sign law. This puts the funding of such sporting events in jeopardy. Unintended consequences? You betcha.

The funny part is that the sign law already allows an exemption to display real estate signs on the weekends. If another exemption is added, what the hell is the point of the law in the first place? Live and let live, people.

What do you mean that it puts funding in jeopardy? Doesnt' the bill raise funding?

If the banners are deemed illegal, the revenue stream that the league gets is cut off. This was an unintended consequence of the sign law.

The new bill will make an exemption for the banners, thus perserving the revenue stream from companies that advertise with banners on the ball fields.
