As someone pointed out (I’ll call this person “Lettersman”), this story exemplifies the double standard that women parents face. An abandon baby is found, and the question is “Where is the mother.” Why wasn’t anyone asking, “Where is the father?” For some reason, our cultural values and our legal system generally let men off the hook from parenting as long as they send a monthly check to the mother who is expected to care for the child. In contrast, a woman who walks away from an unwanted baby is prosecuted by the law and persecuted by society.
It turns out the mother was homeless and chose to abandon the baby at a church out of desperation. I don’t think that is an illogical decision. In fact, it was probably best for the child. Now the mother will be prosecuted, what about the father?

Finally, finally someone is expressing my thoughts on this and like topics. I'm not alone anymore!
This attitude is a relic from the past, that should be abolished.
As a society we should assign more responsiblity to the father, but how do you do this when we live in a male oriented society, and many women that accept full responsiblity
We do it by changing our culture, no small undertaking. Maybe we will get lucky and the Judge will be a woman, or a man sensitive, and wise enough to make a decision to include the father.
