Hell will be forever for rent. Or not.

“The reign of tears is over. The slums will be only a memory. We will turn our prisons into factories and our jails into storehouses and corncribs. Men will walk upright now, women will smile, and the children will laugh. Hell will be forever for rent.”

Billy Sunday, in response to the prohibition law passed in 1920.

That is a lovely image, but prohibition really did nothing but create a black market for alcohol were ruthless murders like Al Capone became multi-millionaires. Modern day drug laws are essentially doing the same thing. This short letter, written by Milton Friedman, is well worth a read.

Thanks Free Market that was a good read, now if we could only learn from what we read, than we might do what would be best.
